The origins of the King Solomon Hotel traces back to the 1960s when The Saunders built the hotel with just 9 rooms on the ground floor. It was originally called ‘The Hibiscus’.
In the 1990s, Islands Hotels took over operations and expanded the existing accommodations and structures to the level that still exists today. Also included in the expansion were the still as popular as ever, Bamboo Café, Pipe Line Bar (Honiara’s first nightclub) and cable car. Once all the additional rooms were constructed along a hillside garden, the property was renamed after the great King Solomon.
40 odd years later in 2002, the hotel again welcomed Shane and Susan Kennedy as its new owners. They added a tremendous amount of local artisan efforts and detailings and kept both its existing name and the name of the bar as Hibiscus Bar where a little bit of history still lives on.
